– 武式太極拳 WU YUXIANG STYLE TAIJI BOXING 郝少如 編者 by Hao Shaoru 顧留馨 審 edited by Gu Liuxin [published June, 1963] [translation by Paul Brennan, June, 2013] – 郝為真(1849─1920) Hao Weizhen – 武式太極拳簡介 INTRODUCTION TO WU YUXIANG STYLE TAIJI BOXING 河北永年人武河清,字禹襄(1812─1880),出身於小官僚地主家庭,兄弟三人在家練習武術。當楊露禪(1799─1872)自陳家溝返鄉,禹襄兄弟愛其術,從學陳氏老架太極拳,得其大概。禹襄兄澄清(1800─1884)於1852年中進士,官河南舞陽縣知縣,禹襄赴兄任所,便道過溫縣陳家溝,擬訪露禪之師陳長興(1771─1853)求益。道經趙堡鎮,知長興已老病(這年長興已82歲,越歲卒),時陳青萍在趙堡鎮教授陳氏新架太極拳,遂從青萍學新架月餘,備悉理法。澄清於舞陽鹽店得王宗岳(乾隆年間人)《太極拳譜》,禹襄得譜研究,更有發悟,以練拳心得發揮王氏舊譜之義,為《十三勢行工歌訣》作註解十條,名為《打手要言》;又衍為《十三勢行工心解》四則;並歸納鍛煉要領為《身法十要》。其著作皆根據其本身的體驗,故簡練精要,無一浮詞。 禹襄之甥李經綸,字亦畬(1832─1892),於1853年始從禹襄學拳。亦畬研究太極拳,仿禹襄實驗之法,招致鄉勇以自驗其技,一再筆錄修訂。亦畬之孫槐蔭於1935年在李廉讓堂本《太極拳譜序》中說:“此譜系先祖晚年所著,中經多次修改,方克完成。每得一勢巧妙,一著竅要,即書一紙貼於座右,比試揣摩,不斷實驗,逾數日覺有不妥應修改,即撕下,另易他條,往復撕貼必至完善而始止,久之遂集成書。”李亦畬的太極拳論文有:“五字訣”一篇、“撒放秘訣”擎引鬆放七言四句、“走架打手行工要言”一篇(闡述了走架即是打手、打手即是走架,練拳和推手相輔相成之理)。近代太極拳的傳布,以楊氏祖孫三代對教材教法不斷創新之力為多,而於拳理的鑽研總結,首推武、李,較之王宗岳《太極拳論》之抽象性的概括,原為具體切實,有繼承、有發展,乃能自成一家。 … Continue reading

– 形意拳術 THE ART OF XINGYI BOXING 李劍秋 by Li Jianqiu [1919] [translation by Paul Brennan, Feb, 2013] – 發刊形意拳初步宣言 INTRODUCTORY DECLARATION TO THIS PUBLICATION 人生最可惜最痛苦的莫過于身體柔弱精神萎靡,而最幸福的莫過于身體健全,而健全身體之法,有動靜二種,或專從事于筋肉之發達,或專為精神上之修養,如靜坐法,可謂靜功之一種,而各種器械體操及中國之棍劍石鎖雙石杠子等運動則均屬動的,然二者均有流弊,常有因靜坐妄思,而得精神病,因運動過度,而至減少聰明者,皆因不明體育原理之故也。近時代東西各文明國,均注重體育,已視為一種科學,體育家研究結果,均為精神與肉體應同時鍛煉,所為平均發育,身心合一修養人格等主張是也,新創制柔軟體操,即諸此理,但其體育之理論固是,而其術尚未盡善,頑軀孱弱多病,友人勸習拳,不久而漸覺轉健,如是恍然以中國之拳術,精神體魄,同時鍛煉,實合于體育原理,聚以好勇武者,多推魯不文,不能研究奥理,以道后學,而文人又不肯學習,愁焉憂之,乃于民國五年,與體育同學吳志青,創立武術會,號召四方同志,晨夕研究,聲譽日隆,又經全國教育會議决,請教部將吾國固有武術,實行加入學校正科,并立國技專修學校,廣造武士,初則在北四川路,宜樂里,租屋數楹,來學者亦甚寥落,今則購地自建新屋,會員數千人,日習不懈,平日又派教師至男女各中小學校實施傳授,即纏足年老女者,習之稍久亦無困難,由此可知武術施于學校之有利無弊,而身體之健康,尤有特殊之效益也,設會之始,同人早知形意拳優點,南方無人提倡,深為惜之,特函托奉天拳家陳子正先生,物色教師二位慨然允許介紹劉歧祥陳金閣,當時又在商務印書館俱樂部,發起國技研究會,一時加入晨習者數十人,五年以來幸無流弊,而綿薄之力,終不能使之發展,甚自愧也,今與會內外同志立願,以強一身者強吾同胞,強同胞者強吾國家,古入雲:穹則獨善其身,達則甫善天下,予謂人生如欲保守率真天性,淡泊態度,當不取功名利祿,掌生殺之權,擅作威福,以自悦者,則必學崇尚俠德之風,普度衆生,方不虛度一世,吾將以此册風行宇內,而以武術同聲之求,束鹿李劍秋先生,世傳妙術,常應清華學校之请任教授,对形意拳術頗有心得,特聯合宣言,原與好武之士共勉。 上海國術研究會:李劍秋 黃方剛 吳志青 黃警顧 代表全體會員聯合宣言 In a human life, there is no suffering worse than for the body … Continue reading

– 太極拳刀劍桿散手合編〔卷八〕 PART EIGHT of Taiji Compiled: The Boxing, Saber, Sword, Pole, and Sparring 陳炎林 by Chen Yanlin [published June, 1943] [translation by Paul Brennan, Nov, 2012] – 太極刀 TAIJI SABER 太極刀。一名十三勢刀。有十三字訣。砍、刴、剗、截、刮、撩、扎、捛、劈、纏、搧、攔、滑。為昔日楊家太極拳術中著名器械之一。刀式不多。惟式式均能實用。而化人攻人。尤為神妙。令人不可測度。相傳楊健侯時。有著名神刀張某者。與楊交手。楊僅以拂塵代刀。張前進未及一步。刀遂被黏住。竟無一刀出手。可見楊家太極刀之深奧也。惜乎迄今得正傳者少。如廣陵散幾成絕調矣。著者不願珍秘。特將斯刀練法及用法。詳加闡明。以供好此者作為借鏡。太極刀在練時或用時。皆以腰腿為主動樞紐。刀之進退。腰腿相隨。用刀猶如用手。上下、前後、左顧、右盼、周身一致。其間不可稍有斷續。尤不能以力運刀。(如手臂拙力使刀運轉等)恐因拙力。(卽呆力)則己身內勁閉於骨內。不克運行於外。遂有運轉不靈之弊。務須以刀引出己身內勁。使周身內勁及精氣神運於刀上。如水銀裝於其內。運用達於刀尖。收之至尾。故楊家前輩練習太極刀。有重咸在五斤以上。蓋欲由重刀之轉動。引出本身內勁。倘渠運此重刀。僅以手而不用腰腿。試問其能神速乎。故學者之練習太極刀。非以腰腿勁運轉不可。至於沾黏等勁與徒手拳式同。否則不能成為太極刀正宗也。 Taiji Saber is also called Thirteen Dynamics Saber … Continue reading
